Interview

I Train by myself with the help of my father and have done since 2011, I’m quite independent because of this but would love to be a part of the team environment that Track and Field offers at American universities. I have been able to balance a variety of different commitments in my high school life and I’m looking forward to focusing on my true passion that is athletics alongside my studies. I am very respectful and humble towards my peers, coaches and fellow competitors and this has been a big factor in how I am viewed by the athletic community in New Zealand. I really enjoy working with the younger members of my athletic club and always try my best to set a good example for them on and off the track.

I want to compete at college level to challenge and better myself not just as an athlete but as a person. I want to compete at a higher level of competition so that I can push myself to better results. I know that training in a group environment would help me work harder towards my goals and gain a sense of companionship at training and meets. I would be very grateful to compete in college because it would help me carry on doing what I love whilst building a future for myself on the academic side.

Academically, achieving at a high level at college is very important to me in order to lead out a successful lifestyle in the future. Sporting-wise, I want to compete and train with the best so in turn I can better myself as an athlete. My goal is to run hard and compete at the highest level for whichever university I get placed into.

The biggest goal of mine is much like many others, to become an Olympian and represent my country on the world stage. To run at the NCAA level of high competition and do well would be incredible. I want to obtain times in the 400m that no New Zealander has ever run, break the 46 second barrier and hopefully this will lead me to more opportunities and success.

-I am also the Head boy (or head student) for my school – Wairarapa College.
-I have been involved in athletics and soccer from a young age and I love both sports. I play for my high school first XI soccer team.
-In my high school years, I’ve been heavily involved in the cultural side, including choirs, a lead role in the major production and playing guitar/singing in bands.
-I have received academic, sporting and cultural awards during my time at school so far.
