2019 Season: Luzi Persiehl completed one of the best seasons in school history, a claim supported by becoming the program’s first NFHCA All-American. The defender also was voted the NEC Player of the Year after helping the Stags capture the conference’s regular-season and tournament titles. She was also named NFHCA All-Region and All-NEC first team for her performances. The sophomore started 20 of her 22 appearances, missing starts against Indiana and Bryant. She led the team with 11 assists and added six goals to give her 23 points. Her point total ranked second among her teammates, just two off the top spot. All six of Persiehl’s goals decided games, securing game winners against Boston College in overtime, Kent State, Indiana, Sacred Heart, at Villanova, and versus LIU. She made one defensive save during the season, making a stop at Villanova. Persiehl scored in 12 straight games which accounted for 16 points including an assist in the NCAA Championship.

2018 Season: Persiehl collected two major awards from the MAAC for her play during 2018 when she was named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year and the Rookie of the Year. She earned a spot on the conference’s postseason first team for her play. Her defensive effort made her one of the top defenders in the MAAC, helping the team registered seven shutouts and allow one goal or less 11 times. Persiehl also had her success up front with a goal and two assists. Her only goal of the season was a game winner as the Stags defeated Rider by a 2-1 score in the MAAC Tournament semifinals. She assisted on two goals in the team’s 5-4 setback at Columbia.

Interview

I am the Captain of my team, so what makes me different is that I get along with everybody and always try to include everyone. Besides what makes me special is that I play since I am 5 years old and I worked hard every year, always improved my skills and now I am one of the best players of my team and the youngest one playing for the 1st Bundesliga ever in our club.

I see that the ones studying in Germany in our club have big problems to combine studying and sports and they don ́t get any support of the university. I ́ve heard that this is different in America. Furthermore I want to improve my English skills and my father has studied in America and often tells us the great things he experienced.

My goal is to have a good graduate and find friends for life.

My life goal is to look back at my life when I am 90 and say I took all of it. That I enjoyed every day and took every opportunity to experience something special. My field hockey goal is to make it into the national team of Germany.

I was awarded “Player of the summer camp” when I was at a summer camp in Millfield (England)
