I am aware that an athletic scholarship brings with it various responsibilities with respect to the college, team and coaching staff. Fulfilling these is a particular concern of mine. Thanks to my qualities such as goal orientation, structure, and willingness to learn and perform, I believe I am well equipped to do so. I don’t just see it as my duty to achieve the goals set for me. Rather, I enjoy constantly improving myself and achieving new personal bests. I regard criticism as a constructive means on the way to a better “me”. In order to develop in a team sport, it is important to adapt to the team and, if necessary, to subordinate your own short-term goals. The fact that I have been voted team captain by my teammates several times in my soccer career shows that team performance is my top priority and that I am quite prepared to take on leadership responsibility.
Because of my current situation, I know how difficult it is to combine higher-class soccer and studying without neglecting one side. Both the physical distance and time management are big challenges at the moment. However, it is important to me to get a good academic degree in addition to the soccer education. Studying at a U.S. college, where time for athletic activities is also integrated into the daily routine, gives me the chance to pursue both areas in the best possible way and under professional conditions. For this reason, I feel that the step to America is the right one.
As I begin my soccer scholarship at an American college, I have both athletic and academic goals that I am eager to pursue. On the athletic front, I am determined to become the best soccer player I can be. I plan to work hard every day, both on and off the field, to improve my skills, technique and physical condition. I want to contribute as much as possible to athletic successes of the college. At the same time, I also have ambitious academic goals. I know that a college education is a tremendous opportunity, and I want to make the most of it. Through newly acquired knowledge and skills I want to achieve an internationally recognized degree with a very good grade point average. I would like to convince with both athletic and academic achievements in order to put myself in the best possible position for my future international professional life.
Moving to another country is a big step in life and requires a high degree of self-discipline and independent action. On the other hand, it offers the opportunity to broaden one’s horizons through unique life experiences and to expand or strengthen individual soft skills. I would like to take up this challenge and use the opportunity to develop myself on a personal, social and professional level. At the same time, I am looking forward to getting to know the American culture and to bring my English skills to a business-fluent level. I am convinced that the opportunity of this sports scholarship will help me enormously, both professionally and personally.
